冬奥会

Child: Look, the Winter Olympics mascots.

宝宝：看，冬奥会吉祥物。

They are so cute.

他们太可爱了。

Mom: Yeah, you know their difference?

妈妈：嗯，你知道他们的区别吗？

Bing Dwen Dwen is the mascot of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics,

冰墩墩是北京2022冬季奥运会的吉祥物，

and Shuey Rhon Rhon is the mascot of the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games.

雪容融是北京2022冬残奥会的吉祥物。

Child: I see. When we get home, can we watch some games?

宝宝：明白了。咱们回家以后能看比赛吗？

Mom: Sure!

妈妈：当然！

❉ Short-track speed skating and speed skating 短道速滑和速度滑冰

Child: Mom, is this short-track speed skating or speed skating?

宝宝：妈妈，这个是短道速滑还是速度滑冰啊？

Mom: Good question.

妈妈：好问题。

Look, the athletes are racing on a short ice track that is about 111m.

Mom: Yes, but yours are just basic moves.

Child: I feel like dancing on ice with skates with music again.

Mom: We can go skating anytime you want –

妈妈：你什么时候想去滑冰咱们随时可以去，

it's winter break.

寒假了嘛。

❉ Ice hockey 冰球

Child: Mom, this is an ice hockey game -

宝宝：妈妈，这个是冰球比赛，

our school has an ice hockey club.

我们学校就有冰球社团。

Mom: Team sports are always exciting to watch.

妈妈：团体项目一般都挺刺激的，很好看。

Look, the players of the two teams are driving the puck into each other's goal.

看，两队队员都在努力将冰球击入对方的球门。

❉ Curling 冰壶

Mom: There is another winter team sport called curling.

妈妈：还有一个冬季团体项目叫冰壶。

Curling is a strategic sport in which players throw curling stones on ice.

冰壶是一个策略运动，选手们在冰上投掷冰壶。

Child: This is kind of slow.

宝宝：这个有点慢。

Mom: Yes, but it's full of excitement and suspense once you get to know the rules.

妈妈：是的，但是你知道规则以后，会觉得它充满激情和悬念的。

Just listen to what the commentator says.

听听解说员怎么说就行。

❉ Luge, bobsleigh, and skeleton

雪橇、雪车、钢架雪车

Mom: Let's watch some sliding sports – luge, bobsleigh, and skeleton.

妈妈：咱们看一些滑行项目吧——雪橇、雪车和钢架雪车。

Child: Cool, they are like sliding down a big slide.

宝宝：太酷了，就像滑大滑梯一样。

Mom: Yes, but a much harder one.

妈妈：是的，但是是难好多的滑梯。

Actually, can you tell the difference of the three?

对了，你能看出它们三个的区别吗？

Child: Sure. You lie on your back on a luge,

宝宝：当然。要躺在雪橇上，

lie on your tummy on a skeleton,

趴在钢架雪车上，

and sit in a bobsleigh.

坐在雪车里。

Mom: All correct.

妈妈：都对了。

Plus, a bobsleigh is steerable and is capable of braking.

另外，雪车是可以操纵方向和刹车的。

❉ Cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, ski jumping, and freestyle skiing

越野滑雪、高山滑雪、跳台滑雪、自由式滑雪

Child: Shall we watch some skiing sports?

宝宝：咱们看点滑雪项目吧？

We're going skiing this weekend.

咱们这周末就要去滑雪。

Mom: Okay. Cross-country skiing is gliding on snowy hills

妈妈：好的。越野滑雪是在山丘雪原上滑行，

and it's the closest to how ordinary people like us ski.

它是最接近咱们普通人滑雪方式的。

Alpine skiing is descending and turning along prescribed mountain roads.

高山滑雪是沿规定的山路滑降、转弯。

Ski jumping is sliding down a platform and jumping into the air to fly a certain distance.

跳台滑雪是沿跳台下滑，然后跃入空中飞行一段距离。

And freestyle skiing is performing tricks in the air or on the snow.

还有自由式滑雪是在空中或雪上表演技巧。

❉ Snowboard 单板滑雪

Mom: We also have snowboarding -

妈妈：还有单板滑雪，

instead of using two skis,

不是用双板，

athletes use one snowboard to slide down the slopes in various positions.

而是用单板从坡上滑下并做出各种动作。

❉ Nordic combined and biathlon

北欧两项、冬季两项

Child: Have we covered all the sports in the Beijing Winter Olympics?

宝宝：咱们把北京冬奥会的运动项目都看完了吗？

Mom: We have 15 disciplines total

妈妈：一共有15个大项，

and we haven't talked about Nordic combined and biathlon yet.

咱们还没说北欧两项和冬季两项。

Nordic combined includes ski jumping and cross-country skiing

北欧两项包括跳台滑雪和越野滑雪，

which we have already talked about.

咱们刚才已经说过了。

Biathlon, also known as "war on snow,"

冬季两项又称“雪地上的战争”，

is a sport that combines cross-country skiing and shooting.

是将越野滑雪和射击结合在一起的运动。

Child: Good, I think I've watched enough TV.

宝宝：很好，我想我已经看了不少电视了。

Can you take me to the rink today?

你今天能带我去冰场吗？

Mom: Sure thing!

妈妈：当然！
